Paris, The City of the Lovers

The Elysees Champs

The Elysees Champs is one of the most famous avenues in the world and the largest street in Paris, with 2km long and 60M wide. It is also the scene of numerous popular events, as the last Tour de France stage or the military 14th July parade.

Montmartre

It is located on a hill, dominated by the Sacre-Coeur Basilica, which was built to pay tribute to the French dead at the Franco-Prussian War. The Sacre-Coeur is one of the most visited monuments in Paris and is inspired by the Roman and Byzantine architecture. Strolling among Montmartre's streets is like moving to the past. One of the Montamtre's attractions are the numerous street artists who sell their paintings in the Tertre square, close to the Basilica.

Montmartre is a commercial district full of restaurants, hotels, cafes and cabarets. At the foot of Montmarte there is a picnic and leisure area (close to Blanche and Pillage's squares). In this neighborhood is located the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret, probably the most famous cabaret of the world.

There is a wooden building in the middle of the hill called the Bateau-Lavoir. The Cubism movement was born here. Artists as important as Braque or Picasso worked there.

Latin Quarter

The Latin Quarter owes it name to the students of the Sorbonne in the Middle Age, who used to speak in Latin language. The Latin Quarter is located on the banks of the Seine River, close to the Cité Island and a yards from Notre Dame. It is one of the liveliest neighborhoods in the afternoons and the evenings in Paris. Among its small streets there are piled heaps of pubs and ethnic restaurants (suitable for all budgets). In just a few meters you will find Greek restaurants, Italian restaurants, Chinese or Japanese restaurants and all kind of pubs. This is one of the few neighborhood where you can eat cheaply in Paris. Around the Gothic church of St-Séverin, there are small streets with popular restaurants. In this area there are a lot of Greek establishments. The Latin Quarter is the perfect one to stroll around. It is one of the most tourist areas in Paris. The Saint-Michel square is a must. It is full of charming coffees and book stores. You have to stroll along the Seine's shore to enjoy of the beautiful views. When you arrive to the Pont Au Double, you'll see Notre-Dame in front of you. From this very basilica the length in kilometres of all French roads are measured, which makes it one of the French capital's reference points.

The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was built for the International Exhibition of Paris of 1889, commemorating the centenary of the French Revolution. It was not accepted by all at first, but nowadays it is the most representative symbol of Paris and one of the most famous monument in the world. At 300 metres (320.75m including antenna), and 7000 tons, it was the world's tallest building until 1930.

Les Halles

Les Halles is a beautiful area to have a walk. It is full of multicultural people and with plenty of shops. Here you can visit the Saint-Eustache church, the Forum, the Georges Pompidou centre, the St- Marri church and the famous Tour de St-Jacques.

Chaillot

In Chaillot there are the most beautiful views of Paris. In addition, this area is full of avenues full of shops and restaurants. The Chaillot Palace is a must: incide you can visit the Merine Museum, the Monuments Museum, the Men Museum and the Cinema Museum.

Louvre Museum

The Louvre Museum is the most visited, oldest and most famous art museum in the world. Its rich collection brings together pieces from all times and cultures. It is almost impossible to visit it in just one day, due to its huge dimensions. The Louvre museum is a great destination during a Paris vacation. The former palace is a historic building, with varied architecture, and one of the most expansive collections of art in the world.
